BonV Aero Supplies 45 Heavy-Payload UAVs to Indian Army’s Eastern Command

Odisha-based drone manufacturer BonV Aero has supplied 45 heavy-payload unmanned aerial vehicles to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, marking a significant deployment for the startup’s logistics technology. The UAVs are intended to transport critical supplies, equipment and mission-configured payloads across difficult terrain in Northeast India, according to the company.

The requirement reflects the logistical challenges faced across the region, where forested and riverine areas sit alongside high-altitude Himalayan locations. Seasonal floods, landslides, snow and steep approaches can disrupt conventional surface transport, making unmanned aerial systems a potential additional option for moving smaller loads when road access becomes difficult.

The 45-UAV supply follows a longer period of field trials and operational testing by BonV Aero. The company says it has previously conducted Army trials or operations in locations including Tawang, Siliguri, Dimapur, Kargil, Dras and Nyoma, and has trained more than 150 Army personnel on its systems in the Northern Command. BonV also says one of its platforms carried a 30 kg payload to 19,024 feet at Umling La, demonstrating the engineering challenges involved in maintaining lift at extreme altitude.

The development comes as the Army evaluates drone logistics at a much larger scale. In August, the Ministry of Defence issued a Request for Information for 2,715 logistics drones across low-, medium- and high-altitude categories. An RFI is an early procurement step rather than a confirmed order, but the scale of the requirement shows how unmanned systems are being considered for routine last-mile supply operations.

For BonV Aero, the latest delivery is important because it moves the company beyond demonstrations toward supplying systems in meaningful numbers. The next test will be sustained field reliability, maintenance and integration with existing logistics networks. The published announcement does not disclose the contract value or identify the exact UAV model supplied, so specifications of BonV’s other commercial platforms should not automatically be treated as specifications of these 45 aircraft.
