Matiks started with a simple idea: mathematics, memory and logic could be competitive entertainment rather than homework. Two years later, the Bengaluru startup is preparing to take that proposition overseas — and eventually let its own players create the games.
The social gaming platform has raised $10 million, or about ₹95.1 crore, in a pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst. Entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala also participated alongside existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures. The capital will support international expansion, new games, social features and deeper investment across engineering, AI, product, design and growth.
Founded in 2024 by Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur, Matiks builds competitive games around maths, memory, logic and puzzles. The company says more than 22 lakh players had completed 4.8 crore games on the platform by September 2026, while current daily active users are around 3 lakh. Early usage has also emerged from markets including Japan, the US and South Korea.
Retention is becoming an important part of the pitch. Matiks says players who complete a seven-day streak show 62% retention after one month, while some early cohorts have retained 32% of users at week 52. Its newer single-player puzzle format, SNAC, is also generating sessions roughly three times longer when included. These remain company-reported engagement figures.
The next product layer could change Matiks from a game publisher into a platform. Part of the fresh funding will go toward an AI-powered creation engine that lets users build, publish and share their own social games without writing code. Matiks expects this to increase the variety of games while giving creators a larger role in expanding the platform.
Internationally, the company plans to prioritise the United States before entering additional Tier-I markets. Matiks’ bigger bet is that “mind sports” can occupy some of the cultural territory currently held by esports and mainstream mobile gaming — with competition, creators and communities forming around games built primarily for the brain.
