Early investors backing a startup for a decade eventually reach a moment where holding on stops being the bold move and cashing out becomes the obvious one. For two of Meesho's earliest backers, that moment arrived on Tuesday, and it came with a price tag just shy of Rs 2,000 crore.

Peak XV Partners and Elevation Capital together offloaded a combined 2.27% stake in the e-commerce marketplace through block deals on the NSE, worth Rs 1,949.28 crore. Exchange data shows each fund sold 5.24 crore shares at Rs 186 apiece, for a combined 10.48 crore shares changing hands in a single session. The buyers on the other side of the trade were a genuinely global mix, Axis Mutual Fund and Fidelity emerged as the largest purchasers, joined by names ranging from HSBC Mutual Fund and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance to Morgan Stanley Asia Singapore, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe, and Societe Generale.

The scale of the sale matters relative to what each investor still holds. As of June 2026, Elevation Capital owned 12.04% of Meesho and Peak XV Partners held 10.06%. Tuesday's transaction trimmed roughly 9.4% off Elevation's position and close to 9.9% off Peak XV's, meaning both funds still retain the overwhelming majority of their original stakes even after cashing in a chunk of them.

The timing lines up neatly with Meesho's own momentum. The company reported a strong June quarter just weeks earlier, with operating revenue climbing 48% year-on-year to Rs 3,713 crore, while its net loss narrowed 54% to Rs 133 crore from Rs 289 crore in the same period last year, exactly the kind of improving fundamentals that make early backers comfortable selling into strength rather than waiting for a rainier day.

Meesho shares closed Tuesday's session at Rs 191.88, valuing the company at Rs 88,750 crore, or roughly $9.34 billion, a number that puts Tuesday's block deal in perspective: even at nearly Rs 2,000 crore, it barely dents a company now approaching double-digit billions in market value.
