Kuku Technologies, the parent company of Kuku FM and Kuku TV, is building a 1,000-member
AI-led content production unit in Mumbai as it prepares to scale its microdrama business
globally. The company has already hired nearly 200 people and plans to expand the team to
around 1,000 by the end of the current financial year.
The new unit is bringing together writers, filmmakers and engineers rather than relying only on
technical AI talent. Writers will develop stories and dialogue, filmmakers will handle visual
direction, while engineers will build systems for tasks such as maintaining characters and
narrative continuity across longer-running series. The aim is to make AI part of the production
workflow rather than simply a standalone content-generation tool.
Kuku expects the model to significantly reduce both production time and cost. According to
sources cited by Entrackr, AI-led microdrama production could cost under $100 per minute,
compared with more than $150 in China. The company also estimates that one person using its
AI-led workflow could generate around 20 minutes of usable video per day versus roughly one
minute through traditional production.
The expansion comes as Kuku moves closer to the public markets. It has confidentially filed
draft papers for an IPO of up to ₹3,500 crore and is targeting a valuation of as much as ₹15,000
crore, or around $1.8 billion. IPO proceeds are expected to support technology and AI
infrastructure, content production and geographic expansion.
Kuku claims more than 10 million active paying subscribers, 400 million app downloads and
over 60,000 hours of content across its platforms. Its revenue reportedly jumped from ₹240
crore in FY25 to more than ₹1,400 crore in FY26. With AI now moving deeper into content
production, the bigger test will be whether Kuku can preserve storytelling quality while scaling
output dramatically ahead of its IPO.
