Big companies rarely announce a strong quarter and a leadership handover on the same day. Infosys did both this week, and somehow neither piece of news overshadowed the other.

India's second-largest IT services exporter reported a 12.2% year-on-year jump in net profit for the June quarter, touching Rs 7,769 crore against Rs 6,921 crore a year earlier. Revenue climbed 14% to Rs 48,211 crore, powered by large deal wins worth $3.6 billion, well over half of it fresh business rather than renewals. AI-linked work is no longer a side conversation either, contributing 8.2% of total revenue for the quarter.

Yet the company chose caution over celebration when it came to guidance, trimming its FY27 revenue growth outlook slightly to 1.5-3%, citing a mix of global economic uncertainty and softness tied to a specific client and business volumes. It is the kind of small, deliberate hedge that large IT firms tend to make when the mood outside looks better than the mood inside boardrooms.

The bigger story, though, was tucked into the same announcement. Infosys named Ashiss Kumar Dash, a company veteran of more than three decades, as CEO Designate, set to take over from Salil Parekh as Managing Director and CEO on April 1, 2027. Dash currently leads the company's energy, utilities, resources, services and sustainability businesses from Los Angeles, and will spend months being mentored by Parekh, starting this October, before formally stepping into the corner office.

It is a transition built for continuity rather than disruption, handing the wheel to an insider who has spent his entire career inside the company he is now set to run. For a firm navigating uneven global demand while still expanding its workforce to over 3.28 lakh employees, that kind of steady-hands succession may matter just as much as the profit numbers themselves.
