Flipkart is pushing further beyond ecommerce, taking a minority stake in Delhi-based travel-tech startup TravClan as it looks to build a stronger international holiday business across Flipkart Travel and Cleartrip.
The investment amount has not been disclosed. TravClan will use the fresh capital to expand its business development, engineering and destination operations teams while investing further in global supply, technology and new destinations. For Flipkart, the deal offers access to TravClan’s technology and its network of more than 15,000 travel agents.
Founded in 2018 by Arun Bagaria, Chirag Agrawal and Ashish Thapliyal, TravClan helps travel agents build and grow their businesses online. Its platform allows agents to customise and book packages, hotels and activities in real time, giving them access to inventory and tools that would otherwise be difficult to manage independently.
That capability fits Flipkart’s broader travel ambitions. The ecommerce major wants to expand curated international leisure offerings and improve on-ground support for travellers through both Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel. Flipkart says consumers increasingly want complete holidays built around their interests rather than simply booking a flight or hotel separately. TravClan’s supplier relationships and destination network are expected to support that shift.
The investment also adds another layer to Flipkart’s diversification strategy. Its in-house travel business has already expanded beyond flights into buses and hotels, while Cleartrip has moved into corporate travel. Outside travel, Flipkart continues to invest across areas including quick commerce, AI, fintech, logistics and other ecommerce adjacencies.
For TravClan, Flipkart brings more than capital. For Flipkart, TravClan offers something it cannot build overnight: a ready network of travel agents, suppliers and destination expertise. The deal suggests its travel ambitions are moving from simply selling bookings toward owning more of the entire holiday experience.
