For decades, the footwear industry has focused on style, cushioning, and performance. But a new Indian startup believes the future of footwear begins with something much simpler letting feet move the way they were naturally designed to.

Footwear startup BUILT has raised $2 million (around ₹17 crore) in a pre-seed funding round to accelerate its expansion and strengthen its product ecosystem. The fresh capital will be used to enhance product innovation, improve manufacturing capabilities, grow the team, and scale operations across the country.

Founded by Vedant Lamba and Vijayant Dhaka, BUILT is building a footwear brand centered around natural movement. Its products are designed with features such as wider toe space, flexible soles, and a low heel profile to encourage more natural foot mechanics while maintaining everyday comfort.

The company currently offers footwear for daily wear as well as court sports, targeting consumers who are becoming increasingly conscious about mobility, posture, and long-term foot health. As awareness around functional footwear grows, BUILT sees an opportunity to create a new category in the Indian market instead of competing solely on fashion trends.

Beyond expanding its product lineup, the startup also plans to invest in proprietary manufacturing processes and product development, allowing it to maintain greater control over quality, design, and performance.

India's footwear market continues to evolve as consumers look for products that combine comfort, functionality, and thoughtful design. BUILT is positioning itself at the intersection of wellness and innovation, hoping to make natural movement an everyday habit rather than a niche lifestyle choice.

With fresh funding in hand and a clear product vision, the startup is now stepping into its next phase of growth one designed not just to sell shoes, but to reshape how India walks.
