Bioscan Research, which builds deeptech solutions combining optics, electronics, mechanics, and software, said the freshly raised capital will be strategically deployed across four key areas: market expansion, securing additional regulatory approvals, upgrading its existing product, and developing new intellectual property.

About Bioscan Research

Founded in 2017 by Anupam Lavania and Shilpa Malik, Bioscan Research is focused on improving outcomes for traumatic brain injury patients through objective, early-stage assessment tools. The company's approach centers on detecting brain injuries at a pre-symptomatic phase using machine learning powered technology.

The Flagship Product: CEREBO

The startup's core offering is CEREBO, a device that uses near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology to function as an advanced intra-cranial injury detector. It is designed to help medical teams manage trauma patients even when no visible symptoms of brain injury are present.

The co-founders noted that the technology is built to reveal what isn't visible to the naked eye, aiming to give doctors clearer diagnostic insight and patients earlier access to care. They pointed to the scale of the problem globally, noting that more than 50 million people suffer from traumatic brain injuries each year, with a large share of mild traumatic brain injury cases going undetected. According to the founders, the new funding will help the company upgrade CEREBO further, close gaps left by conventional diagnostic tools, and extend urgent-care capabilities both within India and in international markets.

Investor Perspective

Anil Joshi, Managing Partner at Unicorn India Ventures, said the firm has consistently backed innovative medtech companies, pointing to a significant unmet need in healthcare markets like India. He highlighted the scale of head injury and brain trauma cases reported each year and stressed the importance of technology that enables early and accurate diagnosis.

Joshi added that Bioscan Research's approach — enabling non-invasive detection of intra-cranial haemorrhage — represents meaningful progress in the space, noting that the company has strengthened its technology over the past year.

Growth Plans

Looking ahead, Bioscan Research is targeting 3x growth over the next 12 months, with plans to expand its footprint across both domestic and international markets.
