The journey of a startup doesn't end when it becomes a unicorn. For many of India's most successful startups, the real milestone is earning the trust of public market investors. CarDekho's parent company is now preparing to take that next step.
Girnar Software, the company behind CarDekho, is planning its proposed initial public offering and is aiming for a valuation of ₹13,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore. If the plans move ahead, the listing could become one of the most closely watched startup IPOs in the country.
The proposed public issue is expected to be worth between ₹3,000 crore and ₹3,500 crore, with a significant portion likely to come through an offer for sale by existing shareholders. A smaller fresh issue is also expected to strengthen the company's financial position while providing liquidity to early investors.
Founded by brothers Amit Jain and Anurag Jain, the company has evolved far beyond an online automobile marketplace. Over the years, it has built a diversified automotive technology ecosystem spanning vehicle discovery, financing, insurance, mobility solutions and digital automotive content, making it one of India's largest auto-tech platforms.
The IPO plans come at a time when the company has reported stronger financial performance, improving revenue and a sharper focus on sustainable growth. Rather than chasing expansion at any cost, the business has been working towards operational efficiency and long-term profitability qualities that public market investors increasingly value.
The proposed listing also reflects a broader shift across India's startup ecosystem. After years of private fundraising, many mature startups are now preparing for life in the public markets. For CarDekho, an IPO would represent more than a fundraising event—it would mark the beginning of a new chapter, where long-term execution, financial discipline and shareholder value become the true measures of success.
