Albinder Singh Dhindsa took over as chief executive officer of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, on February 1, 2026, succeeding founder Deepinder Goyal after the board approved his appointment.

Dhindsa is best known for co-founding Grofers and leading its transformation into Blinkit, which became one of India’s major quick-commerce businesses. His move to the top role at Eternal brought a founder who had already built and scaled one of the group’s largest businesses into charge of the wider company.

Born in Patiala, Punjab, Dhindsa studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, where he completed his B.Tech. He later earned an MBA from Columbia Business School in the United States, according to profiles published by IIT Delhi and other business publications.

Before entering the startup sector, Dhindsa worked in transportation and logistics. YourStory reported that he worked in the US before returning to India, while Fortune India said he worked at URS Corporation and Cambridge Systematics before joining Zomato.

Dhindsa joined Zomato in 2011 as head of international operations. He worked on the company’s expansion into overseas markets before leaving to build his own business with Saurabh Kumar.

In 2013, Dhindsa and Kumar co-founded Grofers. The company initially operated as a hyperlocal delivery service, connecting consumers with neighbourhood stores for grocery and other local deliveries, according to the Economic Times and Fortune India.

Grofers later changed its business model as the founders responded to operational challenges and changing consumer demand. The company moved towards an inventory-led model before Dhindsa led another major shift towards quick commerce.

In 2021, Grofers was rebranded as Blinkit and focused on rapid delivery of groceries and everyday essentials. The change positioned the company around quick commerce, a category that subsequently became one of the most competitive segments of India’s consumer internet market.

Zomato agreed to acquire Blinkit in 2022 in an all-stock transaction valued at about $568 million, or Rs 4,447 crore, according to Forbes India. Dhindsa remained at the helm of Blinkit after the acquisition and continued running the business within Zomato’s expanding corporate structure.

The board’s January 21 filing formally approved Dhindsa’s appointment as Eternal’s CEO and key managerial personnel from February 1. The filing also said he was not related to any director or key managerial personnel of the company.

Goyal resigned as Eternal’s director, managing director and CEO effective at the close of business on February 1. The company later disclosed that Goyal became vice chairman and a non-executive director after shareholder approval.

Goyal backed Dhindsa’s ability to lead the group, pointing to Blinkit’s development under his leadership. The transition therefore moved Eternal’s day-to-day leadership from its founding food-delivery executive to the entrepreneur who had built its quick-commerce business.
