Moj has crossed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, but the bigger shift may be happening after users install the app. The homegrown short-video platform says engagement and revenue have accelerated as it pushes deeper into advertising-supported micro-dramas and storytelling-led formats.
Operated by ShareChat parent Mohalla Tech, Moj now ranks fourth in the Social Mediacategory on Google Play in India and is the only Indian app among the top four, according to the company. The platform also says it generates more than 1 billion video plays every day and has built a community of over 3 million creators.
The engagement story has changed noticeably since Moj introduced ad-supported micro- dramas. Mohalla Tech says daily time spent per user has more than doubled, with users now spending close to 50 minutes a day on the platform. The format gives Moj something short- video feeds have traditionally struggled to build consistently: episodic viewing that encourages audiences to return for the next part of a story.
That attention is beginning to translate into revenue. Moj reported 100% year-on-year revenue growth over the past 12 months, attributing part of the increase to advertiser interest in micro- dramas, branded storytelling and commerce integrations. The company also says creators on the platform collectively earn close to ₹100 crore annually.
The strategy fits into Mohalla Tech’s broader push into short-form episodic entertainment. Moj has already launched initiatives to finance and develop micro-drama creators, while sisterplatform QuickTV is focused specifically on the format. ShareChat’s own newsroom haspreviously described a ₹20 crore annual programme aimed at supporting micro-drama studios.
For Moj, 500 million downloads establish reach. The more important question now is whether serialized short-form entertainment can turn that enormous distribution base into deeper engagement, stronger advertising demand and a more durable revenue engine.
