Zen Technologies is expanding beyond simulation, drones and counter-drone systems with a ₹135.15 crore investment to acquire a 51.98% stake in Bengaluru-based defence technology company Cogknit Semantics. The transaction, once completed, will make Cogknit a subsidiary of Zen while its founding team continues to run the business.
The deal combines a subscription to Cogknit’s primary funding round with the purchase of existing shares. Investor Ashish Kacholia and associates are also participating in the primary round. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, so the stake transfer has not yet been completed.
Cogknit brings a capability Zen has been looking to deepen: battlefield management and command-and-control. The company was selected under the Innovations for Defence Excellence programme to develop a battlefield management system for main battle tanks and has completed field trials with the Indian Army, according to Zen. Its system is designed to connect tanks, vehicles and soldiers digitally so commanders can access a shared picture of battlefield conditions.
That technology is expected to complement Zen’s existing portfolio of training simulators, counter-drone systems, drones and autonomous platforms. Zen also said the acquisition aligns with its proposed Samvid AI platform, which is intended to support shared battlefield awareness. Cogknit’s broader work includes large-scale data processing, edge AI for infantry and command-and-control systems.
Cogknit’s technology has also been shaped through extended field engagement. Zen chairman and managing director Ashok Atluri said the system evolved through nearly five years of interaction, user feedback and trials with the Indian Army. Cogknit had earlier received the
Raksha Mantri’s Award for Innovation in 2022. For Zen, the acquisition is therefore less about simply adding another defence startup to its portfolio. It gives the company a route into the digital layer that connects people, vehicles and systems across the battlefield — potentially tying several of its existing products into a more integrated defence technology stack.
