Thar OG Launches at ₹10.32 Lakh With New Platform and More Power

Mahindra has launched the 2026 Thar OG, giving its three-door lifestyle SUV one of its most extensive upgrades since the current generation arrived in 2020. Introductory ex-showroom prices start at ₹10.32 lakh and extend to ₹18.99 lakh, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin from October 11.

The biggest change sits beneath the familiar body. The Thar OG moves to Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says offers greater structural stiffness. It also gets a redesigned rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, frequency-dependent DAVINCI dampers and electric power steering in place of the previous hydraulic setup. The SUV is now 50 mm wider, while ground clearance rises from 226 mm to 232 mm.

Off-road hardware has also been revised. Four-wheel-drive versions get an electronic locking differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes, while Mahindra has introduced Zip and Zoom drive modes. The broader aim is to make the Thar easier to use on-road without diluting the capability that defines the model.

The engine range remains familiar, but two powertrains become stronger. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol now produces around 162 hp and 330 Nm, while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel rises to roughly 152 hp and 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel remains unchanged at about 119 hp and 300 Nm. Buyers continue to get rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations depending on the engine and variant.

Styling changes are deliberately evolutionary, with new LED lighting, redesigned bumpers, a refreshed grille and up to 19-inch alloy wheels. Higher-spec ZXT versions add six airbags, front parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, wireless charging and leatherette upholstery. The result is less a cosmetic facelift and more an attempt to make the Thar more refined, safer and easier to live with while retaining its rugged character.
