Indian spacetech startup Sanyark Space has raised $2 million in pre-seed funding to develop a software-defined low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation combining precision navigation and secure communication on the same infrastructure. The round was backed by Avaana Capital and AUM Ventures, with the fresh capital earmarked for the company’s Navigation-Communication, or NAV-COM, system and underlying satellite technology.
Sanyark was cofounded by Raghava Kundrapu and Akhileshwar Reddy Peseke. The company identifies both founders as former ISRO scientists, with Kundrapu previously working at SDSC SHAR and Reddy across the Space Applications Centre and ISRO headquarters. Kundrapu was also part of Masters’ Union’s third cohort.
Its core idea is to combine two functions that are traditionally served by different satellite systems: positioning, navigation and timing, or PNT, alongside secure machine-to-machine and IoT communication. Sanyark says its architecture will use software-defined payloads, phased-array antennas and onboard edge AI, allowing satellites to be reconfigured after launch and potentially maintain services when conventional signals are jammed or unavailable.
The startup is targeting both commercial and strategic applications, including autonomous systems, agriculture, critical infrastructure and defence. Its focus on resilient PNT is particularly relevant for systems that depend on accurate location and timing but may operate in environments where existing satellite-navigation signals face interference or limited connectivity. The company has described its objective as building a multi-mission LEO infrastructure rather than a single-purpose satellite service.
The funding arrives amid rising investor activity across India’s private space sector. Indian spacetech startups had raised about $331 million in 2026 by mid-September, already above the $210 million recorded for all of 2025, according to Tracxn data cited by Mint. For Sanyark, the next challenge is execution: translating a technically ambitious NAV-COM architecture into flight-tested satellites and ultimately a constellation capable of delivering reliable navigation and communications at scale.
