Rapido Takes Ownly to Hyderabad With Zero-Commission Food Delivery

Rapido has expanded its food-delivery platform Ownly to Hyderabad, making the city its second market after Bengaluru. The service is built around a zero-commission model in which restaurants are not charged a percentage of every order, while Rapido’s existing Captain network handles deliveries. Customers pay for the food and applicable delivery costs, according to the company.

The Hyderabad rollout gives Rapido its first test of whether Ownly’s model can travel beyond Bengaluru. The company says restaurants can retain the full value of their orders without inflating menu prices to cover aggregator commissions. Ownly is available through its standalone iOS and Android apps as well as inside the main Rapido app, allowing the mobility company to cross-sell food delivery to an existing customer base.

Rapido is also using its mobility infrastructure differently from traditional food-delivery players. Its Captains can take food orders alongside ride-hailing work, potentially improving utilisation during periods when passenger demand is lower. Rapido CEO Aravind Sanka has previously described this shared logistics network as central to the company’s food-delivery strategy.

Ownly has already gained meaningful traction in Bengaluru. Moneycontrol reported in August that the service was handling more than 50,000 orders a day, equivalent to roughly 10% of Bengaluru’s estimated daily food-delivery market at the time. Ownly’s own Hyderabad launch page says it has onboarded more than 22,000 restaurants and delivered over 42 lakh orders, although these figures are company-reported.

Hyderabad now becomes the bigger scalability test. The city has a dense restaurant ecosystem and established food-delivery behaviour, but Ownly still needs to prove that zero commission, customer-facing delivery economics and a shared Captain network can remain sustainable at larger volumes. If the model works beyond Bengaluru, Rapido could turn its mobility network into a broader logistics platform rather than treating food delivery as a separate business.
