Most travel platforms stop competing once the hotel is booked. Bengaluru-based Onto is betting that the real opportunity begins after checkout.

Founded by former Groww professionals Jagdeep Singh and Shubham Goyal, Onto has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding led by Stargazer Fund and co-led by Singapore-based White Venture Capital. Its first product focuses on an overlooked pain point: hotel prices that fall after a traveller has already confirmed the stay.

Onto says it checks eligible hotel rates multiple times a day. If the same hotel, room and dates become available at a lower price before the cancellation window closes, the platform can rebook the stay and return the price difference to the traveller. The feature also extends to eligible reservations originally made on other platforms, once the booking is added to Onto.

That external-booking feature gives Onto an unusual entry point. A traveller does not necessarily need to trust a new startup with the original reservation. Onto can potentially demonstrate value by finding a saving on an existing booking first, then try to earn the customer’s next trip. The company says it makes money through hotel commissions and positions automated repricing as a way to share part of that economics with travellers.

The challenge is scale. MakeMyTrip and Booking.com already have deep inventory, established loyalty programmes and large customer-acquisition budgets. Price guarantees are also not entirely new, although competitors often require customers to manually find a lower rate or submit a claim. Onto’s distinction is automating the monitoring and rebooking process.

The startup eventually wants to move beyond hotels, bringing different travel bookings into one place and developing AI-led tools that understand preferences and explain recommendations. For now, however, its biggest test is simpler: whether saving someone money after one hotel booking is enough to win their next one.
