For technology founders in Uttarakhand, building a startup has often meant looking toward larger hubs for infrastructure, networks and investor access. Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is trying to strengthen more of that ecosystem locally with a new 30,000 sq ft incubation facility in Dehradun.

Located at IT Park on Sahastradhara Road, the new centre spans four floors and includes semi-furnished office spaces, high-speed internet, an auditorium, two meeting rooms, two conference rooms and a Network Operations Centre. It adds to STPI’s existing incubation infrastructure in Dehradun rather than replacing it.

The facility is designed primarily for IT, IT-enabled services and technology-led startups, with STPI positioning it as more than real estate. Through its wider national network, incubated companies can also access mentorship, industry connections, investors and specialised technology expertise through programmes and Centres of Entrepreneurship.

That support already has a funding component. Under STPI’s Next Generation Incubation Scheme, 52 startups linked to the programme have been selected through challenge rounds, with 17 receiving ₹4.25 crore in seed funding collectively and more than 26 receiving stipends of ₹90,000 each. NGIS itself is designed to support software-product and embedded- electronics startups across Tier-II cities including Dehradun.

The new capacity arrives in a state with more than 1,700 recognised startups, according to the government. Officials are also trying to strengthen Uttarakhand’s broader technology base through electronics manufacturing, digital-governance initiatives and specialised startup support.

The significance of the new building, therefore, is not simply another 30,000 sq ft of office space. STPI is trying to give founders in Dehradun more of the infrastructure normally associated with larger startup cities — workspace, connectivity, mentoring, funding pathways and industry access — without requiring them to leave the region to find it.
